Maybe Sweden

Maybe Sweden is a film project in which film producer Margien Rogaar and the Wunderbaum group of actors formed centre stage. The realization of the story was based on the procedure Wunderbaum always employs for its plays: developing from round-table discussions and improvisations. They have incorporated the results of this interaction in a scenario, which has been adapted for the screen by a young film crew.

In a large country house, somewhere in a Mediterranean country, five young people have retreated to throw themselves into their great passion: reading. From early in the morning till late at night their residence is centred around literature. This peace-loving company consists of the hedonist Frederik and his open-minded girlfriend René, stoical Anna and her insecure friend Mira, and lastly Werner, an incorrigible doubter.

The peace and quiet in the house are disturbed when the company has a group of stranded African boat refugees turn up on their doorstep. The country residence, in which the peace of Western idyll dominated up to that moment, is slowly converted into an aid station. The Africans ask for water, a bed and they are taken into the house. Thus the holiday readers are made to face the facts of Fort Europe. Starting from five different and conflicting opinions, everyone finds his or her own way to cope with these people and in doing so the idyll crumbles away.
